Mentorship training for organizations

Develop the people who
develop your people.

Your experienced employees know their work. But when colleagues turn to them for guidance, expertise alone doesn’t tell them how to handle a difficult conversation, offer useful feedback, or help someone move forward.

Foundations of Mentorship equips team leads, player-coaches, and peer mentors with a shared approach—and realistic practice—so effective mentoring depends less on instinct.

The opportunity

Make mentorship a skill your organization can develop.

Being experienced in a role does not automatically prepare someone to help a colleague grow. Effective mentors need practice in listening, asking useful questions, establishing boundaries, and turning conversations into action.

Foundations of Mentorship gives HR and learning leaders a structured way to build those capabilities—and support the development relationships behind their retention strategy.

01 / CONVERSATION

Move beyond giving advice.

Help colleagues examine assumptions, clarify what matters, and choose their own next steps. Learn when to coach and when to direct.

02 / RELATIONSHIP

Build trust with intention.

Practice psychological safety, professional boundaries, difficult emotions, and repairing a conversation when trust is strained.

03 / APPLICATION

Show the skill in practice.

Use role plays, simulations, recorded demonstrations, and a reflective portfolio to put concepts to work.

A moment of practice

The next question can change the conversation.

Mentorship requires judgment in the moment. Learners work through decisions, reflect on their responses, and practice before applying their skills with colleagues.

Illustrative workplace scenario. Try a response to explore the approach.

YOUR COLLEAGUE SAYS

“I keep getting passed over for projects. Maybe I’m just not leadership material.”

Select a response to see what it invites into the conversation.

Designed for application

Knowing what good mentors do is the beginning. Practicing how to do it is the work.

Learners watch demonstrations, make decisions in interactive scenarios, rehearse conversations, and examine their own responses. Guided reading and reflection support the practice.

Role plays, simulations, recorded demonstrations, and a reflective portfolio require learners to apply what they’ve learned. Clear performance criteria and opportunities to revise keep the focus on demonstrated skill.

01 / SEE IT

Watch the skill in action.

Demonstrations and examples make mentoring practices concrete.

02 / TRY IT

Rehearse the conversation.

Interactive scenarios, role plays, and simulations create opportunities to practice.

03 / DEMONSTRATE IT

Make learning observable.

Recorded conversations and portfolio work show how learners apply the practices, with opportunities to revise.
